How to request or dispute your information
The file-request and dispute processes in plain language, with what happens after you submit.

What you can request
Two things, both free of charge from the Consumer Center: a copy of a report that was provided about you (and which organization received it), and your file — the information HVR holds about you, including where each item came from.
Requesting starts with identity
We verify who you are before showing or changing anything — it protects your file from someone else requesting it. Expect a one-time code plus identifying details. If you cannot complete a step, consumer support can offer an alternative path.
Disputing an item
Tell us which item is inaccurate or incomplete, what it should say, and — optionally — attach a supporting document like a W-2, pay stub or offer letter. You see exactly what will be submitted before you send it, you get a reference number, and you can track the stage at any time.
- Pick the report or file item
- Explain the issue in your own words
- Attach documents if you have them — optional, but faster
- Submit, get a confirmation, track the status
What happens next
A reinvestigation: we re-contact the source, review the evidence, and record the outcome — corrected, removed, verified as accurate, or unable to verify. If information changes, a new report version is issued, you are told who received the earlier version, and you may add a statement to your file. If you believe information relates to identity theft, tell us — that is handled on its own track.
